2013: BEST DIRECTION - LAV DIAZ (NORTE, THE END OF HISTORY)

I don't actually have very much to say about this one. It's just obvious. It could hardly be more obvious. It had to be Lav Diaz. This is, though, not necessarily a hint at what my pick for Best Film of 2013 will be, since my favourite film of a particular year often differs from my favourite direction. But check the four-star review. I mean, it's gonna place somewhere on that list!

Best Direction of 2013
  1. Lav Diaz (Norte, the End of History)
  2. Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing)
  3. Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave)
  4. Pirjo Honkasalo (Concrete Night)
  5. Benedek Fliegauf (Just the Wind)
  6. Spiros Statholopoulos (Meteora)
  7. Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani (The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears)
  8. Kelly Reichardt (Night Moves)
  9. Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel (Leviathan)
  10. Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity)

Expect some changes to this list, possibly, once I've seen Nymphomaniac this weekend. Oh, and Bastards tonight. Oh, and The Wind Rises, if I ever bloody see it.
