COULD DYLAN FARROW HAVE JUST SCUPPERED CATE BLANCHETT'S OSCAR CHANCES?

Cate Blanchett wasn't the only Hollywood star mentioned in Dylan Farrow's open letter, printed yesterday in the New York Times, in which she speaks for the first time on the sex abuse allegations regarding her former adoptive father, Woody Allen. But she's the only one mentioned who's been nominated for an Oscar. And now people are questioning whether or not her Oscar chances could have been ruined by Farrow's piece, which is otherwise quite well-written, regardless of the truth of the matter. I don't think this will be the case, since she's won every major award she's been nominated for, for her performance in Allen's Blue Jasmine, and since she will probably continue to do so. Here's the thing - her four fellow Oscar nominees are all worthy winners. But Blanchett has an enormous lead over them, and rightly so. So if she doesn't win her second Oscar on the 2nd of March, you can blame Dylan Farrow. Just because you were (or maybe were not) abused by a celebrity in a significant position of authority doesn't mean you can spoil another's party.
