The nominations-leader, Guillaume Gallienne's Me, Myself and Mum won five awards at the Cesars, including the top honour of Best Film. Two similarly LGBT-themed films, though ones which have experienced broader international success, Blue Is the Warmest Colour and Stranger by the Lake trailed Mum in the nominations stakes by eight to ten, though could only reap one newcomer award apiece. Surprises included Roman Polanski's Best Director win for Venus in Fur, and Sandrine Kiberlain's Best Actress win for 9 Month Stretch.
