You may remember A Castle in Italy as the sole film directed by a woman to be included in the Cannes Official Competition last year. They've doubled that number for this year's smaller selection. Critics at the festival weren't entirely aware how it had made it in over such other female-helmed films as Claire Denis' Bastards; many put it down to Bruni Tedeschi's celebrity.
