CRITICS PAINT MR. TURNER WITH PRAISE AT CANNES

One of the UK's greatest ever painters, and one of the UK's greatest ever filmmakers. And wouldn't you know it from the reviews out of Cannes - even for Mike Leigh, these are some seriously strong responses, and put the film in a solid spot for an award from Jane Campion's jury. Ambitious, majestic, luminous, ecstatically beautiful, magnificent, masterful, moving, lovely, rich, pristine, exquisitely detailed, quietly sensational, may be Leigh's finest picture are all descriptions you can find in reviews from Stephanie Zacharek in The Village Voice, Leslie Felperin in The Hollywood Reporter, David Jenkins in Little White Lies, Isabel Stevens in Sight & Sound, Guy Lodge in HitFix, Scott Foundas in Variety, Geoffrey MacNab in The Independent and Robbie Collin in The Telegraph. With reviews as good as this, Mr. Turner may be the film to beat even after all the competition entries have shown.
