It was little over a year ago, just, that the film world celebrated the wildly successful arrival of a new master documentarian. Swedish filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul was the man behind Searching for Sugar Man, and the career resurrection of perhaps the 1960s-'70s American music scene's most unsung talents, Rodriguez. The joyous film won Bendjelloul an Oscar, a DGA award, a BAFTA, two Sundance Film Festival awards, two International Documentary Association awards, an Ace Eddie, a WGA award, a National Board of Review award, a PGA award and a Critics Choice award. He died, aged 36, today, the 14th of May 2014. His brother Johar reports that cause of death was suicide, following a battle with depression.
