MAGGIE SMITH IS THE LADY IN THE VAN

Yorkshire's favourite Alan Bennett is best known, internationally, for his film adaptations of his plays: The Madness of King George won an Oscar, and The History Boys launched the career of Dominic Cooper. Maggie Smith will reprise her lead role in another such adaptation - The Lady in the Van is the true story of a woman who parked her van in Bennett's driveway one day and proceeded to reside in the vehicle for fifteen years. Ofc Bennett didn't ask her to leave (just think of the dramatic potential!); he stars in the play himself, and now in the film, where he will be portrayed by Alex Jennings, again, as on stage. Nicholas Hytner directed both of the aforementioned Bennett films, and will also direct this one.
