BIRDMAN TAKES FLIGHT AT DALLAS-FORT WORTH CRITICS

There were awards aplenty of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Birdman from the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association today. The black comedy won in five categories, easily toppling its closest rival, the current critics' favourite Boyhoodwhich won two including one special award. There was a strong showing for Wild, which brought with it Reese Witherspoon's first Best Actress win of the season, while a stray nomination for Alfred Molina in fifth place for Best Supporting Actor in Love Is Strange brings to mind a similar placing five years ago for Maggie Gyllenhaal in Crazy Heart - she went on to score an Oscar nomination for that performance, despite reaping no other nods that year.
