With so many great titles in the running, out of a record-high 83 eligible selections, the process of slimming the Foreign Language Film Oscar race down to nine was never going to be a pleasant one. Such a shame, though, to note just how many of the year's best films have been nixed, particularly when the current list favours a number of films that didn't exactly need the boost. Anyway, here are the films which will compete for nominations next month on the 15th of January:
- Accused - Netherlands (Paula van der Oest)
- Corn Island - Georgia (George Ovashvili)
- Force Majeure - Sweden (Ruben Ostlund)
- Ida - Poland (Pawel Pawlikowski)
- Leviathan - Russia (Andrey Zvyagintsev)
- The Liberator - Venezuela (Alberto Arvelo)
- Tangerines - Estonia (Zaza Urushadze)
- Timbuktu - Mauritania (Abderrahmane Sissako)
- Wild Tales - Argentina (Damian Szifron)
