The Writers' Guild of America has strict eligibility rules surrounding membership when it comes to their annual awards selections. As a result, each year, their list of eligible films for said awards routinely contains a few notable omissions in correspondence with people's Oscar predictions. This year, British contenders Mr. Turner and The Theory of Everything will not be able to compete; nor will the screenplays for Dear White People, A Most Wanted Man and The Two Faces of January. The most significant exclusion is Paul Webb's work on Ava DuVernay's Selma, since that film was not a WGA signatory production. Also, animated films such as The Boxtrolls and How to Train Your Dragon 2 do not appear - animated films don't often qualify for these awards. Nominations will be announced on the 7th of January, with the awards themselves taking place on the 14th of February.
