The annual cull of potential Oscar makeup contenders has occurred. Oddly, the Academy's makeup branch still insists on a shortlist of seven films and an eventual table of nominees of just three, so plenty of the year's finest makeup and hair artistry has been ruled out of contention. Among the casualties are many predicted nominees, including The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Into the Woods and Unbroken, though the current list of seven is a fairly formidable one nonetheless.
