Never before have so many films been submitted to Oscar's Best Animated Feature race, now in its 16th frame. 27 titles will compete for the five nomination slots, although not all have yet received their crucial Oscar-qualifying week-long run in L.A. That's not an awful lot about which to worry, though, since this often occurs. The Academy's animation branch has a notoriously broad outlook, so don't just expect the five biggest films in this selection to be your automatic nominees. All nominations across Oscar's 24 competitive categories will be announced on the 24th of January.
