DETROIT CRITICS STAKE THEIR CASE WITH 2016 NOMINATIONS

Now this is more like it! This is what I've been craving, here in the heart of the critics-led section of awards season! A bit of variety, courtesy of the Detroit Film Critics Society. Not a lot of categories, but with choices such as The Edge of Seventeen in Best Picture, Elle Fanning in Best Supporting Actress, and Alden Ehrenreich and Ralph Fiennes in Best Supporting Actor, there's plenty in their nominees on which to reflect. ALDEN EHRENREICH AND RALPH FIENNES IN NEW HAIL, CAESAR! TRAILER

The new trailer for the Coen brothers' Hail, Caesar! is even better than the first one. It's tempting, in any way you think about it (thank you, movie gods, for the gift that is Alden Ehrenreich). It's funny and fabulous in equal measure. It's sure to be remembered as one of the best trailers of the year, for a film that's sure to be remembered as one of the best features of the year... surely. Out in North America on the 5th of February and in the UK on the 4th of March wtf.

LUCA GUADAGNINO'S A BIGGER SPLASH - TEASER TRAILER

I Am Love director Luca Guadagnino's first narrative film since that international breakthrough in 2009, A Bigger Splash stars Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Matthias Schoenaerts and Dakota Johnson. It received boos at the Venice Film Festival where it premiered last month, but it also received cheers, and that's the kind of divisive reaction I rather want it to have. Out on the 12th of February in the UK and on the 13th of May in the US. Also screening at the London Film Festival later this month.
