Hey look! It's another acclaimed female director whose well-reviewed film wasn't chosen for the official competition at Cannes 2014! July Jung's A Girl at My Door may never have been a Palme contender - it has too many middling reactions in the bank to have been able to compete, perhaps - but wouldn't it have been great to see July representing both her sex and her nation (the Korean presence at Cannes this year is very weak) in the festival's premier strand? Here are the mixed, though largely good, responses from Barbara Scharres at RogerEbert.com, Monica Delgado at desistfilm, Maggie Lee at Variety, Clarence Tsui at The Hollywood Reporter and Pierce Conran at TwitchFilm.
