GRACE OF MONACO PANNED AT CANNES

It has begun, and not in the manner that many would have hoped. Me, on the other hand, I wouldn't have the Cannes Film Festival open with anything other than a campy misfire about a legendary celebrity, and could there be a more fitting choice than Grace of Monaco? Not everyone you'll ask who's in Cannes currently will agree, but the major critics all do: Olivier Dahan's attempt to recreate the magic he made with Marion Cotillard in 2007's La Vie en Rose is an utter disaster. I won't even go into what the critics are saying exactly, other than noting that David Jenkins at Little White Lies, Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian, Scott Foundas at Variety, Stephanie Zacharek at The Village Voice and Stephen Dalton at The Hollywood Reporter all hate the film. I can't wait to see it! Btw, report from Dahan at the fest is that the version of the film that will be released is actually sanctioned by both himself and Harvey Weinstein, after all that arguing.
