OBIT - H. R. GIGER


Academy Award winning artist H. R. Giger has died. The Swiss painter and sculptor was 74. His film career began with designs for Alejandro Jodorowsky's abandoned adaptation of Dune, later made by David Lynch in 1985. It then started in earnest with his legendary work on Ridley Scott's Alien, for which he won an Oscar. He worked on all three of the next Alien films, alongside Scott's 2012 prequel Prometheus and several other sci-fi films. Twice married, he died due to injuries sustained during a fall. His passing has been noted by art and film fans around the world, alongside celebrations of his infamous creations.
