FLORIDA FILM CRITICS CIRCLE SURPRISES - THE LOBSTER WINS BEST PICTURE!

After it led the Florida Film Critics Circle nominations with ten mentions, Moonlight wins just one - the Pauline Kael Breakout Award for writer / director Barry Jenkins, a category in which it faced one competitor. Yep. FFCC members gave it a 'Golden Orange,' whatever that is. Adding insult to injury, their choices were fairly prosaic, save a real shocker in Best Picture - The Lobster! Check it all out below.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD WINS AT FLORIDA FILM CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS

The Florida Film Critics Circle's batch of fine nominations turned into a batch of fine winners yesterday. The group's final voting saw nomination runner-up Mad Max: Fury Road edge ahead of leader Carol and Oscar frontrunner Spotlight to win the circle's Best Picture award alongside three other category victories. CAROL TOPS NOMINATIONS WITH THE FLORIDA FILM CRITICS CIRCLE

Guess which three films lead the 2015 Florida Film Critics Circle award nominations? If you've been following awards season closely, you'd likely guess Mad Max: Fury Road, Spotlight and Carol, though if you've been following it even closer, you might be inclined to omit Carol from your prediction. Thankfully, this is one southern critics group not to snub Todd Haynes' romantic masterpiece from its Best Picture slate, and indeed the film tops all others with a total eight nominations over Mad Max's seven and Spotlight's five.
