We couldn't have seen it coming - it may be the Best Picture Oscar frontrunner, but that was the only category in which Spotlight appeared to lead when nominations were announced for the Las Vegas Film Critics Society. NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2015 LAS VEGAS FILM CRITICS SOCIETY AWARDS

There's one thing I greatly appreciate the Las Vegas Film Critics Society for this awards season: championing black cinema. Three of their five Best Picture nominees feature black leads, and two of them almost entirely black ensembles. Otherwise, these are some fairly dire choices, with a near-total absence for Carol and an unusually weak showing for Mad Max: Fury Road - neither film makes it into the LVFCS's top five.
